Some career journeys begin with a clear roadmap. Mine began with a simple hope that someone would give me a real chance to prove myself in marketing. When I moved from Nepal to Canberra, I carried a lot of hope with me. I had completed my MBA at Kings College in Nepal and already had some experience in marketing, but I quickly discovered that having a degree and a passion for the field did not automatically translate into a nine to five marketing role in a new country.
I applied, I tried, I waited. Still, opportunities in my field felt just out of reach. It was disheartening at times. I knew what I wanted to do, but I could not quite find the door that would let me in.
My interest in marketing began back in high school. I was fascinated by the way marketing could shape an organisation’s journey, connect with people and ultimately help achieve real business objectives. Over time, I became especially drawn to digital marketing, with its constant learning, experimenting and improving. I knew this was the space where I wanted to grow my career. I just needed someone to give me a chance.
That chance came with Aris Zinc Group.
In August 2024, I joined AZG as a Marketing Intern for a twelve-week program, working twenty hours a week. From the very first day, I felt something different. This was not just “an internship” for the sake of having an intern. I was welcomed as a real part of the team, trusted with meaningful work and encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and learn.
Those three months were full of new experiences. I learned about Australian workplace culture, how a professional services business operates day to day and how marketing supports every part of that journey. I was able to apply what I knew from my studies and previous experience, but I was also pushed to grow, to think more strategically and to see marketing from the perspective of the business and its people.
One of the things I am most grateful for is that AZG did not just give me a desk and tasks. They invested in me. The company funded additional training so I could deepen my knowledge and learn more about how to implement marketing in a practical, outcome focused way. As a migrant trying to build a career in a new country, that level of belief and support meant a lot to me.
At the end of my internship, I was offered a full-time role as Brand Marketing and Culture Officer at Aris Zinc Group, starting in 2025. I still remember how it felt to receive that news. After struggling to even get an opportunity in my field, being trusted with a permanent role in the organisation that gave me my first Australian marketing experience was an emotional and proud moment.
My journey at AZG over the past year has been filled with learning, growth and a deepening sense of belonging. Every day I have the chance to contribute to the brand, support our culture and keep developing as a marketer. I am still learning, still refining my skills and still working hard to apply everything I know to help AZG grow.
I am genuinely grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey, especially Lizzie Christiansen Young, our CTO, and Manoj Achuthan, our Managing Director, for believing in me, trusting my potential and giving me space to prove myself. Their support and encouragement have played a huge role in my transition from intern to full time team member.
Looking back, my internship at Aris Zinc Group was more than just a three-month placement. It was the bridge between my dreams and my reality in Australia. It opened the door to a career I had been working toward for years, and it gave me the confidence to keep aiming higher.
Thank you, AZG, for the opportunity, the guidance and the trust. I am proud to have started my Australian marketing journey here and excited for everything still to come.
