Stephen Coote is an experienced governance, risk and compliance (GRC) specialist with more than 25 years of professional experience across the Australian Government and private sector executive consulting environments.
As Principal of Janus Advisory, Stephen provides independent executive coaching and strategic advisory services to senior leaders, boards and executive teams. His work focuses on strengthening leadership capability, improving governance practices, and supporting organisations navigating complex regulatory and operational environments. Stephen also has extensive experience delivering executive coaching and facilitation for leadership teams, supporting strategic discussions, governance workshops, and capability development programs.
Through his independent partnership with ARIS ZINC GROUP (AZG), Stephen provides executive coaching services to group leadership and collaborates with AZG teams on the delivery of people and technology-focused GRC initiatives. This includes supporting governance frameworks, risk management practices, compliance oversight, and organisational capability development across strategic programs and projects.
Stephen is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) and holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, bringing a strong foundation in financial governance, leadership development, and professional training. His experience across government and private practice enables him to provide practical guidance that supports effective decision-making, regulatory alignment, and high-performing leadership teams.
Stephen is a highly experienced and qualified non-executive director and executive, holding NED roles across a number of public and private companies and charitable organisations. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), CPA Australia and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD). Stephen holds several additional qualifications across cyber security, auditing, risk management and corporate governance.
In addition to his advisory work, Stephen is recognised as an established expert in Artificial Intelligence Environmental, Social and Governance (AI-ESG) deployment and reporting. He also contributes to the development of future leaders through lecturing undergraduate and MBA students in Corporate Governance and Risk Management.
